There are two (2) positions open in the Institut du Savoir Montfort (ISM)- Research for Postdoctoral Research Fellows. The positions are located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and are provided for 1 year, renewable for another year. Each post-doctoral fellowship is 50 000$ CND per year.

The main objective of the fellowships is to contribute to the Research & Development for the new Center of Clinical Excellence in Multimorbidity of the Montfort Hospital. Research is done on next-generation clinical decision support systems which will facilitate care delivery to patients with Multimorbidity. This will be followed by Development of prototypes of such clinical decision support systems which will be validated in pilot projects undertaken jointly with the hospital clinicians and health professionals.

Under the supervision of the team leader, Alain Mouttham, PhD, the candidate will investigate leading edge Artificial Intelligence and Deep Machine Learning approaches to clinical decision support systems, in the context of care to patients with Multimorbidity. The research will be validated with system prototypes in pilot projects undertaken with the hospital clinicians and health professionals. We are following the Technical Action Research approach where the Researcher is hands-on, collaborating closely with clinical teams, producing programming artifacts, and learning through validation of these artifacts.

ISM-Research is affiliated with the Hôpital Montfort and the University of Ottawa. The Center for Clinical Excellence in Multimorbidity is a strategic priority for the hospital, and our research team has been mandated and funded to explore what new health services in Multimorbidity the Center should offer, and how to deliver them. Clinical Decision Support Systems play a critical role in this. We plan to apply Deep Machine Learning techniques combined with Big Data from the Electronic Health Record and Data Streams from medical monitoring equipment to, for instance, predict the emergence of diseases in Multimorbidity clusters or predict a COPD exacerbation event when monitoring patient. We also plan to use Artificial Intelligence techniques in a clinical decision support system for the holistic assessment and care planning of patients with Multimorbidity.

Eligibility: • PhD in Computer Science, focused on Health Informatics
Responsibilities: • Undertake research in next-generation clinical decision support systems based on Machine Learning, including Deep Machine Learning, techniques
• Based on the research, contribute to the prototyping of a next-generation clinical decision support system, in the context of care to patients with Multimorbidity

• Publish research findings in top-tier journals and conferences
Competencies and Skills: • Expertise in Artificial Intelligence, including Deep Machine Learning

• Hands-on Experience with Blackboard Systems and Rule-Based Systems
• Very Good knowledge of Java and Python
• Very Good knowledge of Theano or TensorFlow, and Drools
• Excellent inter-personal skills in a multi-disciplinary team
