Tenure Track Faculty Position

The School of Public Health and Health Systems in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo announces an opening for a tenure track faculty position in the area of Public Health Informatics and Data Systems. The initial appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. In the case of an exceptional candidate, appointments at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered.
We seek an exceptional scholar with research strengths in one or more of the following areas: population health data systems, data science, use of large-scale/administrative data to support and evaluate policy and/or public health interventions, applications of artificial intelligence in public and population health, and/or population data analytics (e.g., disease surveillance, outbreak detection algorithms, and infectious disease modelling — agent-based models, social network analysis, etc.).
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a discipline relevant to these areas of research (e.g., statistics, public/population health, applied mathematics, health economics, systems engineering, epidemiology, and computing science). A degree in public/population health, or experience working with a public health agency, will be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to propose an innovative program of high-quality research that will attract external funding and excellent graduate students. Evidence of an actively developing research program and successful record of Tri-Agency funding is a strength. Duties include research, teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, service to the unit, and supervision of graduate students. Applicants whose research aligns with areas of strength in the School of Public Health and Health Systems would be especially appealing.
The actual starting salary will be commensurate with rank of appointment, and based on qualifications, experience, and research record. The salary for an Assistant Professor ranges from $90,000 to $130,000; the salary for an Associate Professor ranges from $125,000 to $150,000. Negotiations beyond this salary ranges will be considered in exceptional cases.
The School of Public Health and Health Systems is an active, vibrant, and growing program. We currently have 38 faculty members, and offer research-focused MSc and PhD degrees in Public Health and Health Systems; a BSc in Health Studies; a Bachelor of Public Health; professional Master’s degrees in Public Health, Health Evaluation, and Health Informatics; and Collaborative PhD specializations in Aging, Health and Well-Being, and Work and Health.
